Lost in all the turnovers and touchdowns on Sunday was a record being set for the Seahawks. Bruce Irvin recorded his eighth sack of the season with under two minutes to go in the game, which pushed him past Leroy Hill for the Seahawks rookie sack record. Hill has 7.5 in 2005.
Hill never reached that mark again, but that seems an unlikely future for Irvin, who was drafted almost entirely as a pass rusher.
Seattle does not exactly have a rich history of rookie pass rushers, but there are some pretty accomplished players on that list. You can see the complete list here
There have been 43 players in the NFL that have had more than 8.0 sacks as a rookie, led by Jevon Kearse with 14.5, and Aldon Smith with 14.0 last year. Only 31 players have had 10.0 sacks or more as rookies, and 17 have had 11.0 or more. Irvin will need four sacks in the final three games to crack the Top 10 for NFL rookie sack totals with 12.0.
