Tale of the Tape: Chiefs Ready for Seahawk BBQ

Hey folks! This is a matchup of the best offense in football against one of the worst defenses in football in one of the tougher home fields. The only reason this might be a competitive game is the weather. It is supposed to be frigid. That may reduce the amount of points scored, but it will not change the outcome. Seattle should lose this game.

The way this works: Each offense will be pitted against the opposing defense and compared on an array of key statistical attributes based on their respective rank in the NFL. The tables that follow show the rank of each unit for each of these categories.

This series is sponsored by Sarah and Chris Rood, huge Seahawks fans and Hawk Blogger patrons. Please thank them by contacting them to work with them on your next home purchase or sale in the Seattle area. They will donate an additional $500 to Ben’s Fund for every closed transaction!

Seahawks Offense vs Chiefs Defense

Chiefs key advantages on defense

Chris Jones is one of the best interior linemen in the NFL. Frank Clark and Carlos Dunlap are productive on the edge. The Chiefs have decent corner play.

Seahawks key advantages on offense

Seattle showed signs of a running game last week but did not leverage it much. You would love to see more toughness in a cold weather game where you are missing your best receiver in Tyler Lockett, but Kenneth Walker seems unlikely to play as well. Geno Smith is better than the quarterbacks the Chiefs have played the last two weeks, and both of those teams put up points on this defense.

Chiefs Offense vs Seahawks Defense

Chiefs key advantages on offense

Patrick Mahomes is the best in the game. Travis Kelce is as well. That should be plenty.

Seahawks key advantages on defense

Mahomes has been uncharacteristically careless with the football lately. He had 3 interceptions against Denver and a fumble against Houston. The Chiefs have turned the ball over a lot. Seattle has stopped finding turnovers lately, even when passes are thrown directly to their safety. They will need at least two for this to be close.

Special Teams

The Seahawks are the proud owners of the best special teams unit in the NFL now.
